It was a time for new beginnings (Patrick in the Slotus), a time for great loss (my fog light) a, time for new friendships (my brother coming up for a race), and a time for great loss (my fog light, courtesy of my brother).
The July race is in the books, and it was a great weekend. Total number of entrants was much lower than usual, but it didn’t take away from any of the racing.
Mustang Boy and his grossly over-powered car made quick work of Saturday’s fast and open course – all the rest of us could do was try to keep up. My brother came up from Atlanta to co-drive my STS BMW. His performance on Saturday was in stark contrast to the shit talk he had been providing for the several months leading up to his arrival. Rich stayed hard in his Viagra-powered BSP Datsun. Thomas made his debut after his severely life altering, um, decision. His GTI did its best to keep one wheel off the ground the entire way around the course. Patrick debuted his new car, the ASP “Slotus”. Showing that design, engineering, and common sense often have no place in motorsports, he won his class, beating the ASP Dodge Viper. Elder Geraghty also drove the Slotus on Saturday, due to some excuse about a gas tank.
Sunday brought an even more “intimate” crowd, but the lack of participants meant we got six runs to do our best. Again, Mustang Boy was fast. I mean, what the hell? This guy is brand new to the group and is beating us silly. I managed to nudge out my brother and two other STS cars (sorry Kate), only after my brother “assisted” me by causing catastrophic weight reduction. Rich pushed even further up in his class to a third place finish, only two seconds of the consistent class winner. Thomas was back again, trying to keep his SM GTI from having its lunch money stolen by the bigger, meaner SM cars. Bill managed to chew enough gum and fix is Porsche’s gas tank only to feel the sting of Rob Robeson’s new RX8 – this might be a good time to move down to H-Stock. Scratch that… stupid Saturn?! Patrick was back in the Slotus, and did his best to make sure it stayed true to its name.
Overall, the weekend was nuts. Between my brother, and covering for Doug, it was like I barely got to see or talk to anyone. We’ll b back in three weeks, so hopefully I’ll have a little more time to “relax”.
Team Zip-Tie Cup Standings
I kinda forgot we had more than 5 people now when I started this year’s competition, and it doesn’t seem right to give the last place person 0 points, so I’m making an adjustment to the points awarded this year. I’ll do a major revision for next year, but for now, first place gets 6 points – what a deal!!!
And just to make things even more interesting, how about +2 points per day for a CONTESTED class win? If we like this, we can do this from this point forward, but I made up the contest, so I’ll make up a rule for this time only (plus, short of slashing tires, we need a way to catch Mustang Boy).
