First run on Sunday @ the Harvest Moon. I flew through the slalom to the Terminal Turn and hit the brakes hard. The seatback lays back! I complete the turn steering with the right hand, while trying to get the seatback to come back with the left to no avail. I drove as best as I could holding myself up in the seat by the steering wheel. Ivy must have thought I would be faster, ’cause he sent Steve on his merry way. Here’s the photo from Steve’s video camera as he entered the showcase turn.

Monday, September 29th, 2008Just incase Shultz is reading…
So we are coming off the second to last race in our series, and things just keep getting interesting. The course for both days was very interesting in the beginning, with one of my favorite, but often unseen elements (the Chicago Box) on Saturday. The courses then opened up to allow those with more “wallet potential” to have fun too.
On Saturday, Bill managed a second place finish, staying very close to the always frightening Rob Robeson, in the only “stock” class car in our group. Thomas, due to a very rare mechanical breakdown in his Volkswagon, was co-driving the ASP Slotus with Patrick. Thomas spun the Slotus one to many times and finished in fourth place to Patrick’s third. Rich, in the most contested class out of all of our team classes, fought and fought hard to stay within five seconds of the stupid-fast Steve Hotchkiss. Mustang Boy managed to trick someone into running ESP with him, and it turned out in his favor. Finally, Kate and I ran in STS, with more competitors than we’ve seen in a while (and most of them BMWs). I managed to wrap up the class by over 1.3 seconds. My luck would not last.
Sunday just got faster, and for some (like me), that’s a hard lesson to learn. Bill felt bad for Rob and let him have it after two races and settled for second in the class. Patrick and Thomas were back at it again (after I had the pleasure of adjusting the suspension on the Slotus) with similar results. Rich didn’t let Steve get away so easy this time around, narrowing the gap to just over three seconds. Mustang Boy paid the other Mustang an undisclosed sum of money for him to re-enter the class, and repeated his win. Kate and I were back in STS, but I just couldn’t get things together and ended up in second, 0.098 behind Jim Shultz (I’m gunnin’ for ya now).
The most interesting part of Sunday was the raw time spread as quoted in a previous post. Rich, Patrick, Thomas, and I were all within six tenths of a second on raw time.

On to the message.

Patrick and Paul,
I tried sending this via e-mail, but kept getting them returned “undeliverable”. I’m sure, due to some technical failure on my part!
From the Black and Purple Cobra driver….
I just wanted to take few minutes to say thanks for all the props and comments this weekend. It really meant a lot!
And to pass on several “well dones” to Team Zip-tie. You guys are all a blast to watch.
I’ve spent a few minutes on the team zip-tie website and it seemed awfully familiar. You might be surprised to learn that the Capital Area Cobra Club website is just as funny, irreverent and full of “ball-busting” as your’s is.
I’m not sure if the Black and Purple Cobra will make the Pumpkin Carve, so in case I don’t: do well, have fun and see you next year! J
Oh, and please pass on to Rich: I love his choice in cars! I had the same year ZX, but it was black. J
Thanks again!

The Race is on…
Thursday, September 18th, 2008So the last minute part search is on. I really didn’t order the GTI’s computer extra crispy, but that’s how it ended up. The injectors are stuck wide open anytime the ignition is turned on. Off to the junkyard for a little rest and relaxation tomorrow.
